Artifort
Artifort began trading in the late nineteenth century. Jules Wagemans set up in Maastricht in 1890 as tapisseur-garnisseur, a regular name at the time for the profession of upholsterer. Artifort's own design policy got under way in the 1920s with the appointment of designer Theo Ruth and has continued through the 1960s with Kho Liang le as 'aesthetic advisor' and with various designers, including Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey D. Harcourt.

Spectrum
Spectrum was set up in Bergeijk in the Netherlands in January 1941. They began be making wooden accessories for the home such as wooden bowls, candlesticks and lamps. After the war they began making small items of furniture such as magazine racks, stools and childrens furniture, then in the late fifties the collection underwent a dramatic change and they began to concentrate on larger pieces of furniture.
